Set thousands of years in the future, Dune the boardgame is based on the Frank Herbert novels about an arid planet at the heart of the human space empire's political machinations.

Boardgames can be just as exciting as any wargame scenario, especially as the rules allow for more diversity in gameplay, Kingmaker!covering troop movements, types, morale, objectives and diplomacy, all in one game!  Dune!Also, the games allow for large numbers of people to sit in on one session, whereas wargaming usually is a one-on-one affair.

Some of the more "recent" boardgames to appear have been based on popular novels, like Dune by Frank Herbert.  Even Lord of the Rings has a multitude of boardgames available to play, ether as the main characters struggling to destroy the ring or games based solely on the armies of the fantasy time period.
