 The
year is 2107. The Justice Department is the organisation behind
law and order on the mean streets of Mega-City One, the world’s
most dangerous city. The Judges are literally judge, jury and
executioner rolled into one, empowered to dispense instant justice, and the
toughest of them all is Judge Joseph Dredd, a clone of the late
Chief Judge Fargo, the ‘Father of Justice'.
Judges patrol Mega-City One atop powerful and
heavily-armed Lawmaster motorcycles, in their gloved hands the
equally deadly Lawgiver handgun. The Judge himself is the
product of 15 years intensive training in the famed Academy of
Law; he is a master of combat and an expert lawyer, tempered by
a necessary streak of human compassion. The Justice Department
assumed the governorship of Mega-City One after the Great Atom
War of 2070-71 to restore order in a city torn apart by
conflict, the corrupt administration of President Booth, and
